Ryujinx vs Yuzu in 2026: which fork should you actually install?

Both projects were shut down, both live on through forks, and the honest answer depends far more on your CPU than on brand loyalty. Here is what 40 hours of side-by-side testing showed.

The question gets asked every day in every emulation Discord, and the stock answer — "Yuzu is faster, Ryujinx is more accurate" — was already outdated by 2023. After both projects were taken down in 2024, what people actually mean now is a comparison between forks: Ryubing and Sudachi on one side, the various Yuzu continuations on the other. I spent about forty hours running the same eleven games across both on identical hardware, and the split is narrower and stranger than the old wisdom suggests.

The test bench

Everything below was measured on a Ryzen 5 5600 with 32 GB of RAM and an RTX 3060, plus a secondary pass on a Steam Deck OLED to check whether the conclusions hold on weaker hardware. Same firmware, same key dump, same game files, Vulkan on both, shader caches cleared between runs so first-boot stutter was measured honestly rather than hidden.

Where the accuracy gap still shows

The ARMeilleure JIT approach still pays off in the same place it always did: long, scripted, cutscene-heavy games. In two RPGs that historically softlocked on the Yuzu side around chapter transitions, the Ryujinx lineage played through without incident. That is not a benchmark you can screenshot, and it is exactly the kind of thing people underweight when they pick an emulator from a YouTube FPS counter.

  • Cutscene and script-heavy titles: clear edge to the Ryujinx lineage, fewer hard stops.
  • Raw frame rate in open-world titles: Yuzu forks still lead by roughly 8 to 15 percent on the same settings.
  • First-boot shader stutter: closer than it used to be, both benefit enormously from a warmed cache.
  • Handheld ARM performance: Yuzu forks remain ahead on Android, though the gap is shrinking with each Adreno driver release.

What actually decides it for most people

Your CPU core count. Below six real cores, the accuracy-first approach starts costing you frames you cannot spare, and the pragmatic choice is whichever fork runs fastest. At eight cores and above, the frame-rate difference becomes noise and you may as well take the build that crashes less. That is the whole decision tree, and it has very little to do with which project you liked more in 2021.

Running both is the boring correct answer

They install to separate directories, share nothing, and cost you a few hundred megabytes. Keep both, keep a per-game note of which one runs it cleanly, and stop treating the choice as permanent. The verdict, unsatisfyingly

There is no winner, only a better fit. Pick by core count, verify against the compatibility list for the specific games you own, and revisit the decision every few months because both lineages are still moving faster than any static comparison can track.
